FO : Flower and tutorial

Yeap...It is done. The flowers were made from nail enamel. Yes...truly, nail enamel!! I got this flower making inspiration from a Chinese DIY magazine, on how to reuse some of the expired cosmetic that we ladies always gathered by years. It's not an easy task to do this project as the nail enamel is pretty difficult to be applied on the wire, it kept on breaking when the first time I did it. But practise make perfect. I guess maybe some of you will be interested to try to make one, therefore I have write up a tutorial on how this flower was done. So enjoy it.

Tutorial to make the nail enamel flower

Materials : Nail enamel, wire (I used 0.3mm wire), green floral tape, some artificial flower stigma, wire cutter and scissor.

Step 1 : Cut the wire in the length of 8cm per piece for the number of flower petals that you plan to make. Then bend the wire to half and twist the bottom together to form a oval shape wire petal like the picture above.


Step 2 : Apply the nail enamel slowly along the wire, you need to apply it very slowly and try not to break it along the way. For the first timer, you may have to be patient when you do this step, try again if it does break halfway when you apply the nail enamel. Let it dry totally and apply another layer on top of the previous one. You may need to apply few layers so that the petal will form more firmly and would not be easy to break.

Step 3 : Now use about 3 strands of the artificial flower stigma (You can use beads to tide by wire to form your own flower stigma if you can't find one like mine.) Twist the wire on the bottom and put aside for use later.


Step 4 : Arrange the petals along the stigma. In my case, I use 5 petals per flower. Try not to overlap those petals when you arrange them.

Step 5 : Cut a wire about 10cm long and tide it along the bottom of the flower to secure all the petals and stigma in place, then twist all the wire together. Leaving the long tail, it will be the stem for the flower.

Step 6 : Now arrange the petals, you can bend the petals any position that you prefer. But be careful not to bend it too hard, or else you will break the petal.

Step 7 : Use the floral tape (I use dark green) to tide the stem of the flower from top to bottom.




Step 8 : Lastly, use 2 of the finished flowers, arrange both of them in the position of one higher than another, and using masking tape to tide both of the flowers together. After this final step you have got it done and can arrange the flowers as you like in the vase or container.
